Mission

To provide experiences that boost hope in the lives of grieving children and families.

Vision

By providing grieving children with adventurous new experiences of fun, healthy discovery, supportive conversation, and guided learning, their lives change. The children are better equipped to develop increased confidence, emotional resilience, strengthened relationships, and a more hopeful outlook.

Core Purposes

  • To support and encourage grieving children and families through practical experiences and interactions with others who are experiencing similar trauma.

  • To engage in the lives of grieving families with positive tools and resources at a time when future problems may be averted.

  • To increase awareness that grieving families need positive interaction with supportive people.

Core Aims

  • Walk Alongside: No one should have to grieve alone. Abba’s Child seeks to break the isolation often experienced with peers at home.

  • Cherish Memories: Memories become the treasure that remains after a loved one dies. Celebrations of cherished memories encourage healing.

  • Energize Hope: Hope is energized when grieving families interact with others who are successfully navigating the journey of sadness and loss.

  • Remember to Live: Camp allows kids to laugh, cry, play, create, remember the person who died, or forget the grief that weighs them down. It is all part of living.

  • Encourage New Life: Over time we release the pain of loss, but never the power of legacy. Our lives pay tribute to the loved ones we have lost.

“Grief is the loudest silence a child will ever hear.”

Monte Torkelsen • Executive Director
